That a financial plan should always serve as the foundation from where all other financial decisions are made. No successful business was ever created without first having a plan in place, so why would your financial life be any different? It shouldn’t.

Let’s face it, sitting down and spending hours creating your own financial plan doesn’t sound like a lot of fun. You have plenty of other things in your life that you’d rather be doing.

That only your own goals should determine how you invest – not the media, not your neighbor and, worst of all, not what the stock market is doing. If your goals haven’t changed, then there truly is no reason to make a change to your investments.
Investing on your own can be tough. Heck, even when you’re working with a financial advisor it can be a struggle. It’s emotional and when the stock market begins to test your patience, your emotions can start to drive your investment decisions.
Our investment philosophy isn’t fancy, it isn’t timing the market and it won’t get you rich quick. However, it’s tried and true. We believe you can’t time the market, but, more importantly, that you don’t even need to. You just have to be invested in it and let your goals guide you the rest of the way.
That your interests should always come first – not ours, not a bank, not an insurance company, not a mutual fund company, not anyone but yours. Your best interests should be the driving force behind all decisions that are made.
We also believe in minimizing conflicts of interests and being completely transparent if they might exist. Many firms won’t tell you this, but sometimes conflicts of interest are simply inevitable. They’re just there.
What’s most important is you know what they are so you can determine if it still makes sense for you.
That everyone makes mistakes. We make mistakes, you make mistakes, everyone makes mistakes sometimes. It’s just inevitable and part of life.
We know that you’re not going to follow your financial plan exactly. We know you’re going to slip up, make a wrong decision or simply not accomplish something in the timeframe set forth.
That’s part of life and we should all accept it. What’s important is what you do after those mistakes. Do you just give up and let the entire plan go to waste or do you accept your mistake knowing it’s part of being human?
You know the right answer. We know it will happen at some point, but we will be there to pick you up, dust you off and get you back on task.
