Stocks have been up and down this week as investors try to assess the possible economic impact of China’s deadly and fast-spreading coronavirus. With the death toll rising as well with the number of confirmed cases, it has investors worried about how this may affect the market.
The World Health Organization released on Thursday that it has declared a global health emergency. There is concern that the disease is continuing to spread to other countries with weaker health systems that aren’t prepared to take on this outbreak.
But this announcement was made in hopes that the UN health agency can provide financial and political support to help contain this outbreak.
Despite all of this, Amazon shares have still surged, with a quarterly profit and revenue report that easily beat out expectations. This was largely due to Amazon Web Services, the company’s cloud business, which had much stronger-than-expected revenues.
